Mount Washington Island Chalets: Navigating Vancouver Island’s Deep Snowpack
Notice: We use affiliate links in our mountain guides and may earn a commission on hotel bookings or gear purchases at no cost to you.

Mount Washington Alpine Resort sits high above the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island and gets a huge marine snowpack — some of the deepest snow bases in North America. Skiing here comes with sweeping views of the Strait of Georgia and Strathcona Provincial Park.
Island logistics are the key. Most visitors arrive by BC Ferries into Nanaimo or fly into Comox Valley Airport (YQQ). On the mountain, lodging centres on an alpine village of independent A-frame chalets, log cabins and ski-in, ski-out condos. Pick a suite with a kitchen and you have a cosy base for the deep island snow.
Island storm driving
Coastal storms can drop heavy, wet snow fast. The resort road requires winter tires — carry chains, check the resort’s road report, and give yourself extra time from the ferry.
